Make your own porridge..... it's so easy and so much better for you than ready made ones!

How to make
Step 1: Put the oats, milk and water into a small saucepan and place over a medium heat. Slowly bring the mix up to a simmer, and turn down to a low heat. The slowest cooking means the oats have time to absorb the liquid and therefore makes the silkiest porridge!
Step 2: Stir often to stop the porridge from catching at the bottom and cook until the porridge has thickened. Different oats absorb liquid at varying rates, so add a little extra water if you feel it needs some.
Step 3: Pour into a bowl and sprinkle the hot porridge with the sugar.
There are so many wonderful options for flavours and toppings for your porridge. Although I love the classic brown sugar, an equal quantity honey or maple syrup is also delicious if you have more of a sweet tooth.
Nut Butters are also fantastic if your day is looking like it’s going to be a bit more energetic, but try to choose one where the nuts are the only ingredient (and maybe a touch of salt).
You can also add a pinch of ground ginger and cinnamon for a warming spice, cinnamon also adds a subtle sweetness which can replace sugary toppings.
Ingredients
1 cup porridge oats *
1 cup milk of your choice
1 cup water
1/2 tsp soft dark brown sugar
*I stick to small organic oats but Jumbo is also great if you like a more textured porridge
